It's one thing to give out advice to people on training and nutrition. It's another thing to actually be strong and in shape yourself. I tend to want to know who gives out advice, as good as it may be. So I thought it would be a good idea to tell you a little about myself.
I have been training for more then 25 years and competed in strongman competitions for 17 years, weighing around 320lbs during that time. So I wasn't really interested in looks, just performance. And I looked like it. I placed for Holland's Strongest Man Competition six times and competed in five. Number six I missed due to an injury that eventually ended my strongman carreer. I retired from competition at the age of 39. At that point I wanted to get my health back and get in shape.
I knew how to train for strength and eat for size, but I didn't know how to diet. So I started reading and experimenting with different types of diets untill I could control my weight and shape the way I saw fit. The above ab picture was taken in August 2013, four months after my 41st birthday and presents my current shape.
I weigh around 250lbs.
Apart from having been in the trenches for over 25 years, my formal education is a bachelor's degree in social science from the School of Human Movement and Sports. I worked as a projectmanager for several sports organisations and served as president and later as the director for all strenghtsport federations in the Netherlands. I have written three books and well over 200 articles on training, nutrition and supplementation. I currently own and operate two businesses and several websites dedicated to improving strength, health and fitness.
